Some interesting facts you secretly always wanted to know about cashews.

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Did you know?
• The United States consumes over 90% of the world’s cashew crop
• A cashew is technically not a nut. It’s a seed stemming from the bottom of the cashew apple which grows on trees
• The cashew seed is a tropical seed which is related to the mango and pistachio.
• The cashew originated in Brazil
• The cashew apple is very delicious, but you won’t see them in any markets because the fruit is actually very perishable, and wouldn’t last long enough for us to enjoy. Only the people with access to cashew trees have the luxury of enjoying them
• The cashew apple begins to ferment from the second it’s picked off the tree. It would be considered lucky if it were to last more than one day

Let us know if you find any other interesting facts about cashews.
